Rock-A-Billy Record Company

Willie Lewis originally formed the Denver-based Rock-A-Billy Record Company to release a possible one-off 45 by his homemade rockabilly outfit, Willie & The String Poppers.

Since then, Rock-A-Billy Record Company has become a world-famous, highly-collectable record label that has released many 7″ 45s, 10″ LPs & 12″ LP records in a wide variety of colors!

The Spuddnicks

The Rock-A-Billy Record Company has not only released Willie Lewis‘ recordings under names like The String Poppers, Billy & The Bop Cats, King Cat & The Pharoahs, Delmer Spudd & The Spuddnicks, Willie & The Original Stablemen, The Bop-A-Whiles and Willie & The Rhythm Razors, but the label has also released records by rockabilly heavy hitters like High Noon, Go Cat Go, Ronnie Dawson, Carl Sonny Leyland and many, many others. The best rockabilly bands of the day recorded for Denver’s Rock-A-Billy Records.

There are still great Denver Rock-A-Billy Record Company bands playing and releasing records today, like the The Redline RocketsJonny Barber, The Bop-A-Whiles and Willie & The Rhythm Razors.

Great site. Was wondering though what years all the records were released? Thanks

Thanks! Rock-A-Billy Record Company recordings were timeless. We won’t be putting dates, listing band members and what they play on each recording until much later. It’s a lot of work and was best compiled in the book on Rock-A-Billy Record Company put out about 10 or 15 years ago by Sven Bergman (http://www.rockabillywillie.com/willie-the-stablemen/)

Sven bergmann took out in 1994 a fanzine of 75 pages ” Rockin with Willie ” which describes every record of the label (musician, quantity, color and more…) it was printed in 365 copies but unfortunately is written in German.

Yes, we will be posting that and many other foreign language reviews on their own “tabs” very soon

Suzy from U.S., Like Bill, I was an avid fan of 40’s/50’s music such as Rock-N-Roll, Rockabilly, Doo-Wop, Blues, R&B, as long as it is rough, raw, wild, crazy, old, primitive, rare, and am nearly purist to the point that I don’t listen to anything much unless it was recorded 50 years ago or more with exceptions of some later recordings like Crazy Cavan and The Rhythm Rockers. I am a big fan of them! I’m not really a snob and still appreciate newer artists but my ears have been so fined tuned to the authentic sound of the era that I prefer the old stuff. I discovered Willie Lewis a year too late accidentally as I was listening to songs posted on social network and a list of other songs turned up. I thought Tennessee Bill was from the 50’s. I had to find out more about him and then I bought the Pullin Time C.D. I can’t stop playing it! I thought, this man must be a genius. He has the sound, bang on! I wish I could have known about him sooner and would have loved to see him sing. May his music live on and never be forgotten.

I’m an original founder of the Rock-A-Billy Record Company. As a member of The String-Poppers, Billy and the Bop-Cats as well as writer and composer. I was a silent partner and financed the creation of the label. I would like to know who is posting these songs as I intend on to purse further investigations. I am from Denver, Colorado

Hi!

We have just finished recording our debut mini-LP.

Six tracks of wonderful, high-energy New Zealand Rockabilly!

The band have been touring solidly for the last few years and are headlining every major retro/vintage festival in New Zealand in 2018.

Our audience is unusual in that we not only get the rockers, but a great crossover too from crowds that would usually go see metal and indie bands.

We are looking for a deal. Ideally a distribution deal but are open to negotiation. We are currently writing for another full-length album, hopefully to be released at the end of 2018.

Here are the rough mixes, completed today! The current plan is to release “Swamp Thing” and “Burger and a Beer” as singles too.

We’d like to aim for an end of March release date.

Interested?
